Alurea Balasarre was born Alurea Dwaerithell in the outskirts of the village of Cinera on the 7th day of the Festival of the Evening. Her mother was a Cineran woman who was known for her fierce temper. She fell in love with an Iridinian man who had claimed to no longer want to fight in the war and had fled to the Cineran side of the border.
Alurea was the middle child of three. Her older sister, Henna, was born 3 years before her and had left to establish herself in Iridine a full year ahead of Alurea. Her younger brother, Irelex, was 6 years her junior. She was heartbroken when Henna left, but had no desire to leave her home, no matter how much her brother annoyed her. She lived what she felt was a fairly idyllic childhood until a local warlord discovered that her father was of Iridinian heritage and, despite what he had told his wife, was actively working for Iridine as an embedded spy. As a result of his transgressions, soldiers came to their cottage to put the entire family to death. Alurea only managed to survive this fate because she had been away from the house playing in the woods on her own, as she especially enjoyed doing in the early evening. She returned home just in time to find her mother being questioned about Alurea's whereabouts. Her father had already been bound and slain. Alurea hid nearby out of sight as the soldiers put her mother and brother to death as well, before burning down her home. Knowing she had no home to return to and with soldiers searching for her, she slipped out of Cinera under the cover of darkness to reunite with the only family she had left.
Over the years, Alurea has taken on a variety of roles within her new home. She served for a time with the Constables, reaching the rank of Sergeant. She was a member of the Blackvine Volunteer Militia and assisted in building the road from Vetallun to Blackvine. She served as a retainer for patrician Avicus Orionex. She enjoyed sitting down to sketch and won multiple art contests held by some of the wealthy. She was eventually sponsored for Citizenship by Celeres Illryia and accomplished one of her life's goals of becoming an Iridinian citizen. But the thing that called to her the most, and the thing she has been the absolute proudest of, was her life as a gladiator.
Alurea joined the Cruentus Laureola stable when it was under the governance of Breonna Balasarre. She and Breonna quickly became absolutely inseparable, and Breonna's mother and father would eventually legally add Alurea to their family in the nation of Gadaene. While Alurea has never been the most skilled fighter on the sands, she has been renowned for her willingness to put on a show and put her own safety on the line for the sake of entertainment. This led her to quickly rise within the CL and to become Domina of the stable when Breonna decided it was time to retire and move back to Gadaene with her husband and child. Alurea's time as Domina saw renewed interest in the Games, as membership for both the CL and Silver Wolves saw significant gains. The CL was able to run a set of Games under her leadership that were largely well received. Eventually, like Breonna before her, she felt the urge to finally retire and pass on the stable to someone that could take it even further than she did.
In recent years, Alurea has largely split her time between her adopted family's home in Gadaene and the place that has always truly had her heart, Iridine.
