History
Born "Atecvndvs" to a Parcine family in the Blackroot mountains, Amarieux spent his youth as a member of a nomadic tribe in roaming the forests and plaints between Parcines and the Aestivan League. Even by Parcine standards, Atecvndvs was exceptionally strong, often performing the duties normally reserved for the adult men of the tribe in his early teens. He developed a particular knack for tree felling, finding the work of swinging an axe with all his strength to be a peaceful way to spend his time in his own head. It was not uncommon to find Atecvndvs far from earshot of his tribesmen, hacking away at a tree as he took in the sights and sounds around him; it was one of these lone ventures that Atecvndvs met the man that would forever change the course of his life.
On a particularly windy evening, while felling a rather thick, old durscwood tree, Atecvndvs heard a faint groaning somewhere out of sight. He stumbled through the thick underbrush towards the source of the sound, where he came upon an olive-skinned, well-dressed man collapsed against the base of a tree. Atecvndvs looked the man over, noticing that the man's right leg shin was split completely open, the bones snapped in two and protruding through the wound. Based on the man's garb and appearance, Atecvndvs recognized him to be from the Republic of Iridine; his tribe would come across travelers from the Republic from time to time, and the elders of the tribe would trade with the travelers. Knowing only a handful of phrases in the common tongue, Atecvndvs said to the man "safe, my people" before gently picking the man up and carrying him back to his tribe.
The tribe's medicineman tended to the traveler's wounds, noting that the man wasn't going to be able to travel back to wherever he came from for quite some time due to the extensive damage to the leg. Atecvndvs agreed to house the man in his yurt while we recovered, and over the course of eleven months, the two became close friends. The man, Octavius Clemensi, was a merchant that ran a business in the Steps for over twenty years before the riots saw his shop and everything he had worked for burned and destroyed. Never one to give up, Octavius decided to leave the violent unrest in the Steps to try and set up a new business in the fledgeling town of Rock Valley. He took the time to learn the languages of various barbarian tribes from the Parcines, the Blackroot Mountains, and even those that would occasionally find their way to the area from the Kelestian Mountains, with the goal of establishing trade with those tribes to be able to offer their exotic goods for sale back in Iridine. He established the Blackroot Trade Company for this endeavour, and would often make months' long journeys to find new tribes to do business with. On this latest travel, him and his men were attacked by an enormous boar and Octavius climbed up a tree to escape it after fleeing for his life. Unfortunately, he was a city man, and he was unable to make it very far up the tree before falling and having his leg gored by the charging boar.
While in the care of Atecvndvs, Octavius taught the young man about trade, and helped develop the youth's fluency in common tongue, and even some of the lingo from his original home of the Steps district. Octavius saw great potential in Atecvndvs, noting his always-cheery demeanour and incredible strength as a rare combination. Once his leg had healed, Octavius offered Atecvndvs a home with him back in Rock Valley, and the chance to help with his growing Blackroot Trade Company. Being one always curious to learn more about the world around him, Atecvndvs agreed to go back with Octavius to Rock Valley. There, Octavius pulled some favors from old clients of his to get Atecvndvs citizenship, forging a new name and origin for the young man: he would now be known as "Amarieux Clemensi," adoptive son Octavius and citizen of Iridine. Over the next few years, Amarieux would learn everything he could about the trade business from him mentor before Octavius died of natural causes, leaving his home and fortune to Amarieux to carry on his work to create a thriving business empire. It is here we find Amarieux today, doing all that he can to fulfill the vision Octavius had for the Blackroot Trade Company.
