Sticks and other detritus which covers it in most places lends itself to camouflage, looking mostly like a pile of oily-slick wilderness refuse. It has no limbs or sensory organs that you can detect. Nevertheless, this particular mass of ooze is quite animated. You think it is growing some form of pseudopod.
