Critical Hits will happen randomly during a fight. There are two sorts of critical hits. Those which can be done against standing Humanoid opponents and the rest which are done against either creatures or prone Humanoid opponents. Every time you land a hit against your opponent you will have a chance to score a critical hit. It is rumored that the frequency at which critical hits happen is based upon: 1) Dexterity, 2) Skill Level, 3) Skillset, 4) Traits. Critical Hits will have varying levels of success from minor all the way to fatal. It is rumored that the severity of the critical hit will be based upon: 1) Base damage of the skill, 2) Skill Level, 3) Skillset, 4) Difficulty of the skill, 5) Traits.
No matter the level of the critical hit, your attack will ALWAYS do at minimum your regular base damage. Critical hits only add and do not subtract any damage.
- Minor: Considered a critical failure. Minor level critical hits will not do any additional damage and will not have any impacts.
- Serious: These will generally cause small impacts on combat such as a stance change, a retreat or a minor bleeding wound (oozes blood). Generally only applies one effect per hit. Minor additional damage.
- Severe: Middle of the ground critical hits. Causes minor broken bones, bleeding (trickling blood), stuns. Medium additional damage. They may have multiple effects in a single attack.
- Incapacitating: As the name implies, these critical hits will have a large impact on combat. Broken bones, bleeding freely, long stuns. These are fight changers. They will generally have multiple effects in a single attack. High additional damage.
- Fatal: Rare critical hits. Will only happen against other Player Characters when the target is below 50% fatigue. It will instantly kill the target. These can only be done against humanoid opponents.
