Falcata Guide
Falcata Sword Fighting Guide
Everything you need to know about the Falcata Sword Fighting skill set.
In a Nutshell
Pros
- Very versatile skill set, that draws strengths from all three one-handed sword styles (Avros, Nelsor & Pardelian).
- Uniquely incorporates grappling mechanics (Mugger Hold).
- Two (2) multi-hitters, Smash and Slash (double-hitter) and Triple Strike (triple-hitter).
- Unique draw-and-approach-and-attack mechanic (Sudden Stab).
- Two (2) approaching attacks (Tumble Slash & Guarded Charge), both allowing you to approach a new target even if you're already engaged (i.e. no need for Melee Advance).
- Guarded Charge will even knock an attacker away from your opponent to make room for you.
- Two (2) defense-penetrating attacks (Heavy Slash, & Wide Strike).
- Multiple knockdown options (Leg Strike & Feigning Thrust). Though Feigning Thrust inflicts no damage and is rise-able.
Cons
- Several attacks and all blocks require a free-offhand, forcing the wielder to choose between a shielded or shield-less strategy, limiting your available moves in battle.
- Training is increasingly difficult at top-tier due to limited trainer ranks (300/175).
- Top-end weapons are slightly harder to acquire, only available via loot drops. Good falcatas are not sold in shops.
Advice & Tips
- Using a shield is a more balanced approach, offering more overall defense, but limiting several high-damage attacks.
- Going without a shield (i.e. using Falcata blocks) is a more offensive approach, allowing you to quickly finish off lesser-skilled opponents using Triple Strike or Mugger Hold.
- While options exist to both use a shield and not use a shield, many prefer the shield/sword combos.
