What is The Eternal City (TEC)?

The Eternal City (TEC) is a Roman Based, Fantasy MUD connecting players in a world unlike any other available on the internet. The game world runs heavily on role-play (RP), players run the army (Legio), the police force (Constables) and participate in a government and legal system based off of early/mid-Republic Rome. Even with mandatory RP, it still manages to offer advanced combat and GM interaction to a level not seen since the glory days of MUDDing in the 90s. It is not without its issues, but those are eclipsed by the active, passionate, and dedicated players and GMs.

What sets The Eternal City apart?

Four main factors separate The Eternal City from most other MUDs.

1. Unmatched real-time strategic combat mechanics.
2. A very large and immersive game world, set in the Roman era.
3. Mandatory role play.
4. Classless skill system that allows players to craft their own playstyle and distinct personas.

How do I sign up to Play?

Yahoo accounts seem to work best.

Gmail accounts are not recommended and have known issues in confirmation emails and password resets.

I'm having trouble logging in. What should I do?

Gmail accounts are not recommended and have known issues. If possible, Yahoo accounts seem to work best.

This is a known issue and TEC staff are working actively to address all affected accounts. These issues are likely a result of some yearly database maintenance and the staff has indicated this is relatively easy to resolve when the account holder reaches out.

How can I stay up to date with the latest TEC news?

There are multiple ways to stay up to date.

1. Check the Latest Updates section of this Wiki.
2. Forward all in-game mail messages to your email inbox by using the @email command in the WA.

Help!! I'm stuck or blocked in-game and I don't know what to do!!

If you're in-game, we'd suggest using the proclaim or ooc commands for real-time help. Proclaiming is just sent to the GameMasters (GMs) who may be online. OOC is for the entire community that's online.

How do I buy the 2nd identical item in a stock menu?

If you encounter a situation where there are two identical items listed in the stock list…

 A chestnut bronze manica                 81t 76d 1st 2s
 A chestnut bronze manica                 72t 1120d

In the example above, you can use the command "buy 2nd chestnut", to buy the one for 72t 1120d. (Note: Using "3rd" & "4th" also work for additional items).

When writing on things in-game, how do you skip a line of text?

Leave a line with just one space character (e.g. in notepad) and copy/paste the whole thing into the TEC input.
