Metals

Metals can be used in weapons, armor, jewelry or everyday common items. Some shopkeepers buy metal. Common metals are easier to have repaired than rare metals.

Common Metals

Brass

Brass is commonly used in jewelry & decoration and tools.

Bronze

Bronze is an alloy made of copper and tin. It is used in an enormous range of products, from weapons, cook ware, jewelry, and coinage. Bronze is the most plentiful and important metal in the Republic, although the stronger qualities of iron are beginning to supercede some of that demand.

Bronze is commonly used in weapons, armor, jewelry & decoration and tools.

Copper

A malleable metal that is used in conjunction with other metals to form alloys. Often used in cook wear, jewelry, some forms of weapons, copper is found in large deposits on the Island of Windward.

Copper is commonly used in jewelry & decoration and tools.

Gold

Gold is a very soft metal that is used for currency and decorative items including jewelry, medals, thread, etc.

Gold is commonly used in weapons, jewelry & decoration and tools.

Iron

Iron is a strong metal, but rusts quickly if exposed to the elements. It is used extensively, with other metals, in weapons, cook ware, and building materials, although its rarity and high demand for weapons makes it very expensive.

Iron is commonly used in weapons, armor, jewelry & decoration and tools.

Lead

Lead is a heavy but soft metal used extensively with other metals and by itself. It has common use as weights, in pottery glazes, and seals, and in sheet form, for piping, water tanks, and bath linings.

Lead is commonly used in jewelry & decoration.

Silver

Silver is a somewhat soft metal that can take a high shine. It is used in very similar capacities as gold.

Silver is commonly used in jewelry & decoration and tools.

Tin

Tin is a soft metal that can be combined with other metals to achieve many usable compounds. Used in cook wear, jewelry (it will take a high polish), building material, etc.

Tin is commonly used in weapons, armor , jewelry & decoration and tools.

Rare Metals

Alanti

A sooty black metal that reflects only slightly, even in the brightest light. This feature makes it popular in armor for those
who make a living of moving undetected. It is light, but not very strong.

Alanti is commonly used in weapons, jewelry & decoration and tools.

Boison

Normal iron, mixed with the ash of the ironwood tree. The ash will flash-burn away on contact with the molten steel, but leaves behind trace elements, darkening the metal to a deep pewter color. Boison is slightly stronger than normal iron, but does not hold as good an edge.

Boison is commonly used in weapons, armor, jewelry & decoration and tools.

Caon

When found, caon is a uniform silver color, indistinguishable from normal iron. However, when melted and allowed to cool, white patches that resemble snowflakes appear on the surface. Caon is almost useless; its only value is to people who find its silver and white surface attractive. It is brittle and soft otherwise. As a result, the word is sometimes used as an insult: "made of caon" are considered by some to be fighting words.

Caon is commonly used in jewelry & decoration.

Retalq

Rarest of the metals, the recipe for its manufacture is a closely held secret of Remathen smiths. It is said that in molten form, retalq is highly volatile. Many smiths have succumbed to its dangers, and there are few left who will risk their lives for the mixture. Retalq is a silvery blue color, equally in demand for jewelry and weaponry.

Retalq is commonly used in weapons and jewelry & decoration.

Seelan

An ornamental metal, seelan is white with a subtle golden glow to it. It is often used as jewelry and in weapon pommels, but is not suitable to hold an edge. Its gilded white color glimmers softly, even in little light.

Seelan is commonly used in jewelry & decoration.
