Nelsor Gladius Combat Guide
Nelsor Gladius Combat Guide
Below you'll find everything important to know about the Nelsor gladius style.
In a Nutshell
Pros
- You can use Skill Points (SP) from Swords to train Nelsor (and vice versa).
- Reverse Sky Arch has defense penetrating capabilities, is a difficult attack to block and inflicts good damage.
- Extended Arm Spin is a default-aimed high knockdown maneuver, capable of unwielding your opponent's weapon if blocked.
- Kicking Slash, and Lightning Thrust are also very worthwhile to train.
- Kicking Leap Strike allows you to approach a target, even while already approached.
- Tiger Slash is a strong-hitting double-hitter, default-aimed low.
- Vulture Block is can be performed from a prone (kneeling) position 1-handed, or from a standing position if wielding 2-handed.
Cons
- This is not a standalone skill set and many prerequisites require you to first learn One-Handed Swords.
- Using Nelsor means the investment in a completely separate skill set, outside of Swords and Shields. This will likely lead to longer training and more overall SP required to progress to higher tiers of combat.
- The following maneuvers leave defensive openings on a (1-handed) failed attempt: Reverse Sky Arch, Kicking Slash & Kicking Leap Strike. Wielding your gladius 2-handed will prevent these openings. These openings will no longer occur one you've reached grandmaster (90 ranks) in Nelsor Gladius Combat (Basics).
- Spinning Duck and Strike may leave you kneeling after an attempt. You can reduce this chance with ranks in Simple Rolling Rise or Backwards Rolling Rise. Remaining in a kneeling position will no longer occur one you've reached grandmaster (90 ranks) in Nelsor Gladius Combat (Basics).
Advice & Tips
- Ranks in Simple Rolling Rise or Backwards Rolling Rise can provide a significant chance to rising from a Spinning Duck and Strike.
- All attacks that have chances to make the wielder fumble, leave openings, fall down, etc. will no longer do so after achieving rank 90 in Nelsor Gladius Combat (Basics).
- Wielding your gladius 2-handed will allow you to perform Vulture Block while standing.
Weapons
In most cases, if still using Reflexes, you'll want a retalq gladius. If your character has maxed their Speed stat at Outstanding, a reforged boison gladius may prove more beneficial.
For detailed information, see the Sword Guide (Weapons).
