Various stones & ores are available throughout the game world. Stones & ores can be sold to shopkeepers or used in custom item requests. Mined ore can be handed in for reputation.
One great non-combat way to get stones & ores is by mining them. Some stones & ores are only available by this method.

Rare Stones
While these stones exist in the game world, (aside from Black Lightning) they are rare to impossible to find in loot.
Black lightning
Black lightning is the colloquial name for tourmalated quartz and amethyst. Tourmalated stones have lines of black tourmaline suspended in them, that does somewhat resemble black lightning.
Dan't'chi
The name given by the sea-faring Cenath to the blue-green pearls that can be found on a chain around the throat of every one of their peoples. The name is unique to the Cenath; most people just call them pearls.
Dzanstone
A mottled burgundy stone with black specks, sometimes found streaked with gold. The gold-streaked variety is known as odzanstone.
It's a good carving stone, and many sculptors with a good cash supply work in it. Another stone of legendary stature, this stone is reputed to be used by magicians to force the sun to set immediately, marking the sky with burgundy and gold instead of blue. Many of the older gemsmiths of Midlight still refuse to work dzanstone and sky's eye in the same piece because of their 'antipathy'.
Floorstone
So named because of its provenance, floorstone is more of a happy byproduct than an actual gem. The gemsmiths in Remath have shaped gems in the same spot for many hundreds of years, sometimes requiring high heat. As a result, the dust and chips removed from the stone in its shaping collect and solidify into a colorful sedimentary rock, with sparkling striations.
Bits of rubies and sapphires and emeralds all form the floorstone. Because the stone is not formed through actual sedimentation, it is easy to work, and also easy to crumble. Finished pieces are usually coated with a light clear coat to protect them.
Sereni
A strange clear stone with flecks and dashes of silver suspended in it. Sereni forms in isolated pockets running along a vein of silver, and is difficult to work. If exposed to too much heat, the stone becomes milky white and worthless, thus limiting the kinds of shaping that can be done.
The stone is considered strange because it contains tiny amounts of an unknown substance that causes it to glow dimly in the dark, and when a speck of this becomes exposed to the air through wear on the stone, it burns brightly, creating a brief flash. Sereni is thus very hard to work properly, but a popular stone.
Sky's Eye
A pale milky-blue stone, soft and easy to shape, almost like a hard wood instead of a mineral. This stone has a mythic stature that includes innumerable fantastic claims of healing and magical powers.
Sparkstone
Gold-flecked black obsidian, mined on Windward Isle in enormous sheets; hard and brittle, impossible to carve but used in slab form for tabletops, stepping stones, etc. It can be shaped laboriously by sanding, but not by chipping.
Mined Ores & Stones
Ore may be found in a variety of sizes: tiny chunk, very small chunk, chunk, palm-sized chunk, …
